NEC Strengthens WiMAX Presence in Taiwan

Japan's NEC announced on November 13 that it will build a WiMAX R&D center in Taiwan. The R&D center will serve as NEC's global WiMAX support center, and NEC plans to cooperate with Taiwanese companies including Quanta, MiTAC, and MSI to develop PCs, servers, and home gateway servers for WiMAX.

In related news, NEC has won the tender for 197 WiMAX base stations by Taiwan's Tatung Telecom. The whole deal is valued at approximately NT$400 million (US$12.3 million; US$1=NT$32.3).
